28 May 2008 - Possible Golden Oriole sighting in Guarlford
Rosemary Williams posted a message on the Forum querying whether a yellow and black bird that turned up briefly on her bird feeder was a Golden Oriole. It "was at least thrush size and was having a job to hold on to the feeder". Enquiries were made to local bird experts. One was doubtful and hadn't heard of any sightings in Worcestershire yet this year, another commented: "While on the face of it, it may sound like a Golden Oriole, the chances of one hanging to a nut feeder seem very slim - they are very shy creatures. I guess it must be some sort of escaped cage bird if the size has been described correctly", and another suggested it was an escaped Black-headed or Village Weaver or other type of weaver bird. Any other comments or possible sightings? - leave a message on the Forum or e-mail to the Malvern Group e-mail address.
